Before class, work the two swatches below on solid, light-colored worsted weight wool yarn. Use US 7 or US 8 (4.5 or 5mm) needles. Do not bind off, but place stitches on holders.
Swatch #1: Stockinette Stitch
Cast on 20 stitches.
Wrong Side Row 1: P20
Right Side Row 2: K20
Row 3: P20
Row 4: K1, p2, k17
Row 5: P20
Row 6: K20
Row 7: P8, k4, p8
Row 8: K15, p2, k3
Row 9: P20
Row 10: K20
Row 11: P20
Row 12: K3, p1, k1, p1, k14
Row 13: P20
Row 14: K13, p1, k6
Row 15: P20
Swatch #2: 2x2 Ribbing
Cast on 20 stitches.
Wrong Side Row 1: *K2, p2, repeat from * across row
Right Side Row 2: * K2, p2, repeat from * across row
Continue this ribbing for 3 inches, inserting 6-8 intentional errors in various places but not in the first or last stitches of a row.
Swatch #3: Garter Stitch
Cast on 20 stitches.
Knit every row for 3 inches.
